The black hounds are a special unit from the Kingdom of Arabakia, they're tasked with hunting the many deserters from the harsh wars with the Barbarian living in the South of the Kingdom. The caught deserters being either execute or send back to the front.
The unit is made of veteran soldiers and is famous enough for a noble from the frontier to immediately identify their trademark black cloak.
It's unknown if General Jin Mogis was the leader of the whole unit and if some of the Black Hound stayed in the mainland, but all those who followed Jin when he was tasked with leading the Expeditionary Force, have now betrayed the kingdom becoming part of Kingdom of the frontier established by Jin Mogis.
However, while about 50 followed the ex-general in the frontier, many died during the assault on Alterna.
